Our Story

Hi! I’m Melissa and I’m bit of an accidental farmer. Originally coming from a culinary background, I was very excited to grow fresh food on the farm. Also in the mix here are chickens, sheep, ducks and my Father-in-law Reg taught me all about beekeeping and producing honey. I really loved the honey bees and the time we spent together. I began growing flowers as an extra food source for our bees and being able to cut some was a little added plus. Let’s just say after that, things escalated quickly. I fell hard and fast for flowers of all types, learning about microbes, beneficial insects and the soil food web. This was the beginning of a mutually beneficial relationship with Mother Nature. Designing and arranging with flowers has been an equally as satisfying creative endeavour and I feel a great sense of honour sharing these treasures with the community.

Fairwind Flower Farm is now entering its 5th year of business and my wonderfully talented daughter in law, Jennifer has joined our team. Jennifer has a natural gift for design and has truly been my right hand over the past season. Together we are committed to creating thoughtful designs for your special moments using blooms harvested at their peak of freshness.

Why Local Flowers?

We love hearing from our customers that their flowers have lasted such a long time! This level of freshness is one the many benefits of locally grown vs. imported. Your flowers aren’t travelling thousands of kilometres before they get to you. You get to know exactly where they came from and how they were grown.

There are some specialty cut flowers that naturally have a shorter vase life (like dahlias for example) and we are still able to offer these blooms because they are going straight from our fields to our flower shoppe for a cool drink and then straight to you. Our flowers are not run-of-the-mill, they are unique in what types and varieties we offer (because we are slightly obsessive and research the heck out of them) their quality and beauty is second to none and they are a true expression of our Sarnia Lambton terroir.
